I’m thrilled to announce that I have completed a mural for the fantastic jewel of a restaurant, Café Mezcal, on Prince Arthur Street in Montreal. It features a woman dressed in the traditional Veracruz style (in honour of restaurant owner Sheila who comes from Veracruz!) looking off into the distance as the moon shines and the stars twinkle over a floral Mexican seascape. Mosaics are fun to paint but very time-consuming. It’s all in the details. In this mosaic, I wanted to approach a traditional activity – blowing the shofar – in a new and surprising way: one, by painting in a style that is unique to me and two, by showing a young boy engaging in the activity to represent the continuity of the tradition through time.
